2012 - Current
Since 2012 Martin Kroeger was Managing Director, since May 2022 he is CEO of the German Shipowners’ Association - VDR, and a specialist in international shipping policy and related government affairs management.
He has worked in the international maritime community for over a decade and serves as a leading industry representative to many international and intergovernmental organizations, among others the International Maritime Organization - IMO in London.

Before joining VDR, Martin worked as Managing Director for the Association of German Seaport Operators - ZDS in Hamburg.
During his engagement with the ZDS, he was actively involved in the work of the Federation of European Private Port Operators – FEPORT in Brussels and chairman to several of it's committees.

Martin also holds the position of Managing Director of the German Shipping Foundation, a facility founded to co-sponsor training and education of seafarers in Germany.

Martin is delegated member to several European and international maritime related advisory committees and expert groups. As acting Chairman of the Safety and Environmental Committee of the European Community Shipowners Association - ECSA in Brussels, and Chairman of the Marine Committee of the International Chamber of Shipping - ICS in London, he actively engages in EU and international policy making for the maritime sector.
He is former Co-Chairman of the Competitiveness Subgroup of the European Sustainable Shipping Forum - ESSF, an advisory platform to EU Member States and the European Commission.

Martin was admitted to the bar of the State of Hamburg in Germany as attorney-at-law (Rechtsanwalt) in 2007. In the same year, his law and consultancy practice was founded, headquartered in Hamburg/Germany.

Martin is member of the Board of the European Community Shipowners Association - ECSA, the International Chamber of Shipping - ICS, the European Maritime Law Organisation in London, the DVIS as well as the German Maritime Law Foundation in Hamburg.
He is former member of the Board of the German Cooperation for Social Insurance of the Transport Industry.
He is legal advisor and acting consultant to international organisations in the field of maritime and security policy.
